First-Time Super Plunger

What prompted you to get involved in the Super Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island (SORI) this year?
Sports have always been a big part of my life, whether coaching or volunteering with my kids. After they grew up, I found a new way to give back by volunteering at the Special Olympics Rhode Island Summer Games. The athletes’ competitive spirit was easy to be swept up in, but what really moved me was the overwhelming gratitude from their families. I also had the chance to hear an emotional speech from a Special Olympics athlete from Scituate, which deeply moved me and reinforced my desire to stay involved. When I was invited to join the Super Plunge Team, the timing was perfect. It’s an honor to be part of such a dedicated group, raising funds that directly support these incredible athletes.

What do you hope to achieve through your participation in the 2025 Super Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island?
As a member of the Super Plunge Team, I hope to spread awareness about the incredible impact Special Olympics Rhode Island has on athletes and their families. Raising funds is also deeply rewarding, knowing that every dollar goes directly to supporting these athletes.

Given that you’ll be plunging into icy waters every hour for 24 hours straight, are you taking any steps to prepare for this initiative?
I’m not sure you can ever be fully prepared for 24 hours of plunging into icy waters! Since this is my first Super Plunge, I’ve been seeking advice from the seasoned plungers and following their lead with preparations.

What message would you like to share with members of the public about your commitment to the Super Plunge and the athletes of Special Olympics Rhode Island?
If you have the time, get involved! Special Olympics Rhode Island is an incredible organization filled with amazing people, all supporting a great cause. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply cheering on the athletes, every effort makes a difference.

Aside from the Super Plunge, are you involved with Special Olympics Rhode Island in any other way?
One of the highlights of my year is presenting medals to athletes after their competitions at the Summer Games at URI. It’s an incredible experience to celebrate their hard work and achievements firsthand.
