League Information
  • League play will begin Wednesday January 20, 2010. Games every Wednesday after.
  • All rosters must be in by December 11, 2009
  • State Team Tournament will be held at Peterson Recreation Center at Providence College on Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Individual Skills Information
  • Enclosed are the sheets needed for information regarding skills
  • Please have those sheets returned to Casie at SORI by February 26, 2010 if participating in the tournament
  • Skills Competition will be held at LaSalle Academy on Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Events
basketball
  • Event 1: Target Pass
    Purpose: To measure skill in passing a basketball.
     
  • Event 2: Speed Dribble
    Purpose: To measure the speed and skill with which the athlete can dribble a basketball, under the stress of time.
     
  • Event 3: Spot Shot
    Purpose: To measure an athlete's skill in shooting a basketball.

We hold ski practice each week as long as Yawgoo is open. Please call the Yawgoo Valley Snow Phone if you have a question as to whether or not we will be skiing, 294-3802, ext. 4.  All athletes must have a ski or snowboard helmet in order to participate in Special Olympics Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding.

2009/2010 Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding Schedule

Friday, Nov. 20 Deadline for current athletes to sign up for the Alpine Ski Program.
Sunday, Nov. 22 Fittings of Rental Equipment at Yawgoo Valley 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
For athletes and coaches who need rental equipment.
Saturday, Dec. 5 Ski Market Discount Day 5:00pm - 7:00pm
For athletes and coaches who have been in the Ski program for at least one year.
Dec. 4 - 6 SONH Coaches Training @ Waterville Valley (this is the training needed for Coach certification) Call Carla by 11/21/08 if you want to attend.
Tues. Dec. 15 SORI Coaches Training School/Meeting @ Yawgoo Valley. 6:00pm Bring skiis and be prepared to ski! We will meet regardless of weather conditions.
Tuesday, Jan. 5 First day of skiing at Yawgoo(there will be a team meeting at the start of practice)
(All practices are held from 6:00pm - 7:30pm)

Interested in Nordic Cross Country Skiing or Snowshoeing?

Practices will begin Sunday January 10, 2010 at Polaski Park - with team meetings.  Official practices to prepare for the Winter Games in New Hampshire and at Yawgoo Valley.  Bring your ski equipment, clothing and a smile!

Interested participants should call Ron Beaudoin at (401) 766-5533 for Cross Country Skiing and Barbara Crosby at (401) 724-8213 for Snowshoeing.

Unified Volleyball

Unified VolleyballThe Unified Volleyball season will begin March 24, 2010.  League play will be held on Wednesday evenings at Johnson & Wales University.

The State Tournament will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Bryant University.

Proper athletic attire is required.  This will consist of a T-shirt with name printed on them, athletic shoes and athletic type pants or shorts.

Team roster should be returned no later than February 5, 2010 to the Special Olympics Rhode Island Office - Attn:Casie Rhodes
 

Unified Bowling

  • All teams should bowl two strings per week and are responsible for the cost of each week's bowling.
  • Unified Bowling Coordinators are responsible for keeping track of weekly bowling scores.
  • Athletes who are using ramps must provide their own ramps for competition
